As I see it from my front porch swing- Post 5
July 2019
This time of year is when families get together and go on vacation to the beach or the mountains or wherever their hearts lead them. My family is no different. My sister and her husband and their children all headed to Nags Head last week. It was anticipated to be a wonderful time! However, two days in my sister, Judy, fell and severely broke her wrist. As I talked to her throughout the week, because she opted to stay after getting her cast at the local hospital, there was an underlying theme to almost every sentence…”I feel so helpless…I can’t do what I want to do without my other hand…my whole body is off kilter!”
I could not help but be reminded of Paul when he writes in scripture about the body of Christ being much like our human bodies and it functions. The Bible teaches that each of us has been given spiritual gifts for the building up of the body. “Building up” means to make stronger and more useful.
There are several ways the body of Christ doesn’t work the way it should. There are those that act like their hands and feet don’t work. There are people who try to be hands that are really made to be feet. Parts of the body groan and complain when they aren’t being used enough.
Healthy bodies work together to fulfill what God has called us to do. Let’s pray that God will help us all be who He has called us to be for the building of His church.
And yes, Judy will have some “building up” to do, too, of those muscles she can’t use for 6 weeks! Will you join me in praying for her, too?
“So we, being many, are one body in Christ, and every one members of one another.”
Romans 12:5
